Post-Treatment Care
If you've had a visit from The Nit Witch, then congratulations! You’re on your way to becoming completely lice free! Remember, I offer a 14-day guarantee with my services, as long as you follow a few simple guidelines. Find out what you need to do here.

Everyone in the household should be checked for lice to prevent a re-infestation. It is essential that you carefully follow these directions after the first treatment to maintain a lice-free scalp and environment.

First, let’s talk about the home and personal belongings...

Clothes, bedding, stuffed animals (recently slept with or snuggled!). After treatment, change clothing and bed linen. Machine wash these items along with recently worn (within the last two days) clothes, hats and scarves on a HOT cycle and dry on HIGH HEAT for at least 20 mins. The dryer alone for 30 mins on high heat will also work. Alternatively, if you do not wish to subject items to high heat they can be placed in a sealed bag and left alone for 48 hours.

Combs, brushes and hair accessories. First, remove all hair, and then soak in alcohol for 30 mins or boil for 5 mins. These items can also be simply placed in a sealed bag and left for two days or placed in the freezer for 4 or more hours.

Carpet and furniture. The chance of any lice being on your furniture or carpet is EXTREMELY slim, but it’s best to give a vacuum to be sure. Vacuum on high power. Focus on the backs of the chairs where the head touches. Do not use toxic sprays or any other sprays. They are ineffective and not necessary.

Now let’s make sure all family members’ heads remain clear and free of little guests!
2nd and 3rd Treatment. It’s VERY important to follow up with another comb through within three days of the initial treatment. One final comb through should be performed three days after the 2nd. Whether you are receiving The Nit Witch Guarantee or following up on your own, PLEASE don’t miss these steps. Continue to check and comb all members of the household once a week for three weeks using The Nit Witch comb. Combing should last at least 20 minutes, following the directions given below.
-
Thoroughly detangle hair using a regular comb or brush.
-
Apply lice removal treatment or make sure hair is wet and has conditioner applied.
-
Part the hair into sections using clean lines and hold with clips.
-
Starting at the scalp and taking small amounts of hair at a time, comb through the hair, in four directions; from above, below and each side. Wipe or spray comb with water between strokes.
-
Continue to comb through the entire section until no further debris is visible after wiping. Be sure to focus on the hot spots – behind ears, at back of neck and part lines.
-
When one section is completely clear, clip away from the rest of the hair and move on to the other remaining sections.
-
Check carefully in a bright light to ensure hair is thoroughly clean of lice and nits.
